Both of Shanize's parents died. Now she lives under the care of her grandmother, who is a widow and is too frail to work any longer. The family earns no income at all. They can miss meals for a few days in a row, and they even are without decent clothing. All that Shanize has comes from well-wishers in her family's church. She is truly in a situation of poverty.
